14th Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE 2012)

Enabling Sustainable Development Through Creative & Innovative Chemical Engineering

The APCChE 2012 (The 14th Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering) will be held in Singapore on 21 – 24 February 2012. This congress aims to enhance communication among researchers and practitioners from Asian countries working in the area of Chemical Engineering.

The APCChE was founded in 1975 through the efforts of Professor T. Mizushima of Kyoto University, Japan. It was formed to provide a focus for various non-profit societies, associations and institutions working in the field of Chemical Engineering in the Asia Pacific region. APCChE comprises of member Societies in 13 countries and regions, namely: China, Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK) are corresponding members.

Industry Seminars

The Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE) comprises of non-profit societies, associations and institutions working in the field of Chemical Engineering in the Asia Pacific region. A congress is held biennially to enhance communication among researchers and practitioners from Asian countries working in the area of Chemical Engineering. 14th APCChE will be held in Singapore from February 21 – 24, 2012. The following industry seminars will be organized in conjunction with the congress.

Sustainability in Practice

22nd February 2012, 9.00am – 5.30pm, Suntec Convention Centre, Level 3 Theatre

Pressures such as aging workforces, gaps in middle management, new regulatory regimes, volatile commodity prices and variability of energy supply are changing not only the modes of production, but also the marketplace. Consumers are more focused on environmentally friendly and socially responsible products, creating strong value propositions for companies that can differentiate themselves through a strong commitment to sustainability.

This seminar focuses on the various methodologies for cultivating a robust sustainability culture, with a particular emphasis on developing visible management commitment, an appropriate organizational structure and focused processes and actions. It will help make sustainability a practical and integral part of creating stakeholder value.

Process Safety Management - Key to Zero Incident Operation

23rd February 2012, 8.30am – 5.30pm, Suntec Convention Centre, Level 3 Theatre

The chemical and energy industries (including refineries and petrochemical plants) handle large quantities of hazardous chemicals, converting them into valued products used in our daily lives. If not managed properly, these hazardous chemicals may be accidentally released with potentially catastrophic consequences. Process Safety Management integrates technology, procedures and management practices to minimize the risks associated with handling highly hazardous chemicals. Implementation of a well structured Process Safety Management system can help organizations achieve Zero Incident Operation.

This conference segment will provide participants with an understanding of the critical elements that are necessary for managing Process Safety, allowing practitioners to share their knowledge, experience and challenges encountered in achieving and sustaining zero incident operation. The need for a strong Process Safety Culture and monitoring of leading Process Safety Performance Indicators to support the structured management system will be discussed and deliberated. It is a unique opportunity not only for chemical engineers but also for all professionals associated with chemical and energy industries to gather and reinforce the belief that “Zero Incident Operation” can be achieved.
